Be a Laundry Legend
We know the fine print on care labels is not the most exciting read, but we thought it was the perfect opportunity to empower our community with knowledge.
While they provide essential information on how to wash and care for your clothes, they don’t explain the ways in which mindful washing can help the planet.
We want you to feel like the eco heroes you are, so we’re more than happy to explain how each of these care instructions contributes to saving our planet.
The instructions below are designed for all of our garments but can also be used for other clothing items. If you're in a hurry and simply need quick instructions on how to wash your item, we've got you covered! Just scroll to the bottom of this page to find our convenient virtual care label.
Washing
Wash at 30°C or below to conserve energy and maintain quality
Lower washing temperatures reduce your carbon footprint and minimize energy consumption.
Use a gentle cycle to protect fabric softness and integrity
This not only extends the lifespan of your clothes but also reduces water usage.
Wash with similar colors to avoid bleeding
This helps preserve water quality by preventing harmful dyes from entering waterways.
We understand that there are certain washes that may require a higher temperature, but using a cooler cycle where possible can still have a significant impact.
Wash Time
Wash your clothing on a shorter cycle. Most machines will have a ‘quick wash’ option
Doing this not only causes less damage to your clothes meaning they will last longer but also uses less energy and less water.
Drying
Avoid tumble drying. Lay flat or hang to air dry for better shape retention and energy conservation
Air drying can reduce energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Ironing
Iron inside out to protect the fabric from direct heat
This simple step extends the life of your clothing, reducing waste.
Additional Care
Avoid bleach to protect the fibers
This can help to prevent chemical pollution in our water systems.
Skip dry cleaning
This avoids harsh chemicals that can harm the environment.
Recycling
When no longer wearable, recycle or repurpose to reduce waste
Recycling clothes reduces landfill waste, conserves resources, and decreases pollution.
Although our clothing will eventually biodegrade should it end up in landfill, we really want to avoid it going there in the first place.
